What it looks like...
Armed:
The glint of silver from the tip of a dart catches your attention as you go over the <box>.
Set off!
You lean close to the <box> and grasp the dart with your fingers in an attempt to remove it from its location. You just begin to move it when a slight "Click" reverberates from the <box>! The dart flies though your fingers and plants itself solidly in your forehead!
A tiny dart lodges into your skull, right between the eyes!
Set off by someone else:
<Person> leans close to the <box> and grasps something between <his> finger tips. There is a sudden commotion and when you look, <he> is looking your way. <His> eyes cross as <he> attempts to focus on the object lodged into <his> forehead!
Successfully disarmed:
After studying the design of the trap carefully, you begin to nudge the tip of the dart sideways in an effort to jam the mechanism. Following a few moments of effort, you feel satisfied that the trap is no longer a threat.
Disarmed (safe):
A small hole near the lock seems to have had something removed. All you see now is a spring that's been sprung.
Notes:
If set off, a tiny dart (light edged/light thrown weapon) can be harvested from the popper's head. Unfortunately, disarming the trap does not yield a dart. These inject you with a -serious- cyanide poison. They drain vitality extremely fast. It can drive you to your knees, making travel to an Empath difficult. A skilled Bard plaing Hodierna's Lilt can keep the victim alive until healed. Some people can smell the almond scent, others can't. Whether you can or not is random, and does not affect anything and cannot be changed.

Glance:
That tiny dart you can see means it's cyanide poison for sure.
